Chuck Berry’s final album will be released on June 16 through Dualtone Records. As previously reported on Gigwise, the album will be entitled CHUCK.
The posthumous release by the rock’n’roll pioneer will be his first new album since 1979’s Rock It and is set to feature guest performances from blues guitarist Gary Clark Jr, Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello and singer Nathaniel Rateliff. Berry’s grandson, Charles Berry III will also appear.
CHUCK is comprised of 10 new recordings, with eight of them written by Berry.
Dualtone have also released an audio recording on Berry’s new single.’Big Boys’. Characterised by that familiar riff made so famous by Berry and propelled by his trademark driving rhythm, it’s bounds to please his legions of fans. Have a listen below:
The album was recorded in various recording studios around his hometown of St Louis and features his longtime band of Charles Berry Jr (guitar), Ingrid Berry (harmonica, vocals), Jimmy Marsala (bass), Robert Lohr (piano) and Keith Robinson (drums).
Speaking in statement, Charles Berry Jr said that working with his father on the album "has been one of the best experiences of my life.
“I will forever treasure the musical conversations we had, and the time we spent together completing it.”
Chuck Berry sadly passed away at his home in Missouri, aged 90 on Saturday (18 March)
